A day has passed since I first heard the news. Turns out one of my favorite uncles has stage 3 cancer. Last night was a period of “well this really sucks” feelings and today it all settles in my head. I find it rather interesting that I find out the same day I post my whole “find your lifestyle and live it” thoughts on life. Life is here for us to live and if we don’t, it can all be over before we know it.
This is not meant to be a downer of a post. Rather, it is to celebrate life, to remind us all that life can and should be enjoyed. My uncle is a great man. He taught me many things as I was a kid. I looked forward to visiting him in Vermont year after year during my summer vacations and again when I was in college. When I think about him, the image of an always smiling man instantly comes to my head. This is how I think of him and this is how I want people to think of me.
Life is unpredictable. It’s not like walking into a movie theater and knowing it will all be over in an hour and forty-five minutes. It has no structure of and order of happiness and sadness. Instead, it is what you make of it. If you choose to celebrate life, it rewards you with more things to celebrate and smile about. If you choose to think of life and mundane or and exercise in futility, well guess what…that’s what you’re going to get.
This news is acting as a reminder that life should be lived. Find the good people in your life and celebrate life with them. Think about what makes you happy…from the grandest idea to the most minute detail…and live it.
Here’s to all that celebrate life, that live life to the fullest, that give us great memories no matter what the situation. And here’s to learning from their good examples and applying it to our own lives. Let’s get out there and live our lives in the best way possible.
