Counting Your Blessings

One must never forget to count your blessings. I was reminded of this late last week as I was talking to my mother. There have been some, oh how shall we say it…trying times with my current roommate. Trying times may be a bit of an understatement. On the bright side, I came up with a pretty cool business idea and have already started to implement it. Hurray!

Anyway…as I dealt with the stress of these trying times I still managed to keep a fairly decent outlook on life. Thank goodness for that because had I not possessed this outlook or let it really get to me, it could hot gotten pretty ugly. I was relaying this info to my mother and telling her I’ve got plenty of good in my life…I’ve got my health for the most part (a few nagging injuries from soccer…but I’m still healthy), a good load of friends and family, a job, and so forth. So why bother getting all worked up about this?

My mother’s response? “People are so silly sometimes, aren’t they?” I wasn’t exactly sure what she was talking about…my roommate perhaps? “I mean, we’ve got so many good things going for us but one thing goes wrong and we dwell on that one thing. We focus on one bad thing out of hundreds of good things.” Wow…that is so very true.

Let us count our blessings, not the bad things (they don’t even have to be bad things per se, but things that aren’t exactly the way we want them) in life.

Here’s to the good people in our lives that keep us grounded when things seem to be spiraling out of control! And here’s to counting our blessings.
