Starting 2009 on a Positive Note

It’s 2009 now just in case you’ve all been sleeping for the past couple weeks. I pondered writing something right around the New Year but why let my message get lost in the jumble of a bazillion people rambling on about New Year’s resolutions (half of which are probably already broken by now)? Nahhhh…I decided to wait it out a bit and inject a bit of happiness and optimism after the hangover of NYE is over.

2009 has started off on a fairly decent note not only for myself but also for a number of good friends, family, and acquaintances. Do I have anything specific to point out? Yes, there are a few things I could delve into but more importantly, it’s that gut feeling that I’ve come to appreciate. I’m not the only one that has felt it either…and that makes me smile.

All around us we hear about doom and gloom. The economy blows, the U.S. will supposedly be in a recession for years, unemployment shot up even more in December and is at its highest in the past 16 years. So what? Are you going to live your life based upon every single outside influence or are you going to take control of your own life? I won’t deny that outside influences certainly have control over some aspects of life, but if you take hold of the situation, push the bad out, let the good in, it really is possible to create a good life for you and your loved ones. Turn off the TV and surround yourself with like-minded positive thinking people. Avoid the nay-sayers and doom-speakers. If you continue to dwell on the negative, you will bring more negative into your life. However, continue thinking about what we DO have (our health, good friends, good family, loads of opportunity, etc) and we’ll continue to attract more good in life. Think back to the message that the Secret tries to convey to those interested. If you put it out into the universe, it will happen. Time and time again I’ve seen people creating their own self-fulfilling prophesies, be it a positive or a negative outcome, I’ve seen it.

These times can be tough if you let it all affect you negatively but when you really think about it, it’s really a time of opportunity. It’s a time for you to dig down into yourself and see who you really are, to see what you really desire in life. It’s a time to look at all the business opportunities, a time to see people stripped down to their most basic elements and see who really follow similar beliefs and ideals in life.

Over the past half year I’ve had one crappy job that affected my life and my health so badly that those close to me were rather concerned and wanted to have the old “me” back. However, as I look back on the past six months I think about the amazing relationships I’ve built. I’ve created amazing business relationships that will ultimately allow me to fulfill my own personal desires as well as supporting the goals and passions of those close to me. I’ve built amazing friendships in these times as well as strengthening my existing friendships. New relationships have been built on every level of my life that have made me smile and be thankful that I’m able to keep my head up no matter what issues are affecting us all.

So…let 2009 be a good one for you. Worry not so much about what resolutions you may or may not have made. To be honest, I haven’t made any resolutions of my own. I already have my list of goals (1 month, 3 month, 6 month, 1 year, 2 year, 5 year) that keep me going and I know who I want to be. Sure, it changes from time to time but the core of who I am remains. Turn off the TV and enjoy life for what it is…life. Surround yourself with people that look at life and all it has to offer. Think about your passions in life and find a way to enjoy them, both big and small. Do all this and before you know it you’ll be one of those people walking down the street with a big smile on your face making people wonder what it is that you are on. Be that smiling fool that enjoys every aspect of life. Smile and laugh with your friends, your family, your lover. Create your own happy place and invite others into it.

2009 will rock if you believe it will. I believe…
