Simple Joys in Hectic Times

It’s been a crazy week for me. I’m sure it’s been a crazy week for everyone given everything that is going on in the world. I’ve had to do some traveling in my time off as well as working some horrendous hours. Somewhere in there was a birthday I had to celebrate with friends and family. It was tough finding time to do everything I need.

So what is one to do? Life is tugging at us from all directions. Work needs us to do this, family obligations need us there. Social obligations take a few more hours of our spare time. It’s no wonder most Americans get far less than the recommended 8 hours of sleep per night.

Let’s all take pleasure in the simply joys of life. For instance, as I was running around like a freak all day Tuesday, horribly sleep-deprived, hungry, running ragged from the planes, trains, and automobiles that I’ve been bopping around on for the past 7 hours (and technically the day had just started). Every now and then I’d grab my Treo and check my email and get a big smile on my face. My Facebook wall was blowing up with people wishing me a happy birthday. Ah…the simple things in life…so so good. All this made me think…”how else can I simplify my life and make sure I don’t miss the things in life that can make me smile, no matter how seemingly small they are?”

I could go on and rant about all the things in the past week but you don’t want to know about those. No…I’d rather make sure we all take the time to slow down and smell the flowers. Times are tough undoubtedly. We’re taxed mentally, financially, and with our time. Let’s not stress over these things. Let us look at the things that put a smile on our face. And let’s put smiles on faces of others. A simple gesture can work wonders. Go ahead and say hi to someone. Smile even when things are rough…smiles really are contagious (at the very least, you’ll make people wonder what you’re up to…HA!)

Keep up the good work loyal readers. And if you’ve got anything to share, feel free to chime in. Let’s show the world that there are plenty of people out there that still enjoy life rather than getting caught up in the craziness of life.
